Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 hands-on review: The best foldable smartphones of 2023

Samsung’s latest foldable smartphone, the foldable Galaxy Z, was unveiled Wednesday at the company’s Galaxy Unpacked event. This foldable phone is the successor to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, and is due out in 2022. Design and Display

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is very similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 4, with a book-like design that unfolds into a tablet. However, there are some notable differences in the new phone’s design and display. Most obvious  is the  camera below the display on the main screen, which eliminates the notch and allows full-screen viewing. The under-display camera is a 4-megapixel sensor that uses AI to improve image quality and reduce  pixelation.  The main display of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is a 7.6-inch foldable Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with a resolution of 2176 x 1812 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, the display is said to be better protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. . It is  more scratch resistant and drop resistant than the previous generation. The display also supports Adaptive Refresh Rate, which automatically adjusts the screen refresh rate based on the content being displayed.

The  Galaxy Z Fold 5’s cover display is a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with a resolution of 2316 x 904 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The cover display also has a punch hole for the 10 MP -Selfie camera. You can also record 4K video at 30 frames per second.  Another refinement in the design of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is the redesigned hinge mechanism for increased durability and water resistance. The hinge will be drop-shaped and the gap between his two halves of the phone will be smaller when folded. This hinge he has an IPX8 rating and can withstand being immersed in water up to 1.5 mtrs deep for up to 30 minutes. Performance and Battery

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset,  a 4nm octa-core processor with a maximum clock speed of 3.2GHz. The chipset also features an Adreno 740 GPU and an integrated X65 modem that supports both sub-6GHz and mmWave bands for 5G connectivity. This phone comes with  12GB or 16GB of RAM and  256GB or 512GB of internal storage. There is no option to expand storage via  microSD card slot.  The Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a slightly larger battery capacity of 3800 mAh instead of the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s 3700 mAh, but Samsung says a more efficient processor and display have improved battery life. The phone supports up to 25W fast wired charging, up to 15W fast wireless charging, and up to 4.5W reverse wireless charging. The phone also supports Samsung Pay via NFC and MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission), allowing you to use your phone as a credit card on terminals that accept magnetic stripe cards.

Software and Features

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 runs on Android 14 with Samsung’s One UI version. One UI is Samsung’s custom skin that adds some features and tweaks to improve the user experience on the device. These features include Dark Mode, Edge Panel, Bixby Routines, Samsung DeX, Knox Security and more. The user interface has also optimized the software for the  Galaxy Z Fold 5’s foldable form factor, for example, he uses Flex mode to split the screen in two  when  the phone is folded diagonally. can do. The phone is compatible with two types of S Pen: S Pen Fold Edition and  S Pen Pro. The S Pen Fold Edition is a stylus specifically designed for  foldable phones with a retractable tip that prevents screen damage. The S Pen Pro is a larger, more advanced stylus that  also works with other Samsung devices such as the Galaxy S23 Ultra and  Galaxy Tab S8. Both S Pens have Bluetooth connectivity and can perform various functions such as: B. Take notes, draw, edit, etc.
